Registry of team/player collectors...Your Opinion Please!

OK, so I was wondering if a registry of Team/Player collectors is something that would be useful.  We all know that Night Owl collects Dodgers and Tribecards and Baseball Dad collect Indians.  Plenty of others are well known too.  But what if I found 45 Dave Kingmans in my closet.  I hate throwing stuff away if there is someone who would appreciate it.

So this is how I envision it... You self-sign up.  Nobody goes into the registry unless they want to.  You can register for up to 2 teams and 5 different players.  If you are a blogger, the registry would link to your blog, then people would get in contact with you through it.  If you don't have a blog, it would have to be an e-mail link I guess.

It would not be the way most trades get done, that would surely stay the way it is now, but it could be a clearing house to help people get rid of good cards to better homes.

So leave your thoughts in the comments!  Is this a good/bad idea?  Why?  Does this already exist in some form?

  1. Great idea. I like it. I would also include the ability to put in sets that people are chasing for us set-builders. If someone's got a lot of 78 Topps laying around, I'd love to know there's a place they can find me!

  3. Oh cool! You know I came up with this idea for cheese on bread, cooked until the cheese melted one time. Turns out that one was already taken too.

  6. Sounds like a solid idea... Glad it exists, but if I found 45 Dave Kingmans in my closet I would run to my computer and begin a post titled "Hey I just found 45 dave kingman cards in my closet, who wants them?"... I guarantee someone would claim them fairly quickly... I would like to know that somewhere, someone has some sort of a database that has my name on it and says I collect Danny Tartabull and Jared Sandberg cards. I guess I would also wonder if I am the only one who does... Damn, I can make a LONG comment. Cheers! troll.

  8. Sounds like a winner, but what if you have more than 5 players? I've got around five players in football and hockey, but about 45 in baseball. Can't say they're all priorities, but the more obscure guys would be better for the list since not many others would be looking for them...
My Yahoo! trading group has a page set up like this...
