Variety from Benny

The package was large.  I had been vague about my wants, so BA Benny had worked up a variety pack for me in return for some stuff I had sent him.  His blog has the word 'Buffet' in it, so you might expect quite the smorgasbord.  And you would be right!

The pic below highlights some of the stuff he sent.As you can see, there are Rookies, Inserts, GU, Parallels, refractory stuff and more!  This is just a small sample, so you know the whole lot was a bundle.  Thanks Benny!!  Get back to posting soon!

Goth's love me?

After the cool post by (Oh crap, I forget who made that post!) about his blogger stats, I started watching mine closer, and I found something interesting.  The last few days, the website that has sent the most traffic my way is http://gothise.com.  I had never heard of this blog, it seems to be an alternative style facebook.

I have absolutely no idea why I am getting traffic from this site!

I kind of hope it's coming from this chick though...

If anybody has a clue about this, enlighten me.

Free Yanks, great blog

Joe blogs some really good stuff over at The Sandlot.  He recently counted down his top 5 David Wright cards and had a little contest where you pick the #1 on his list.

I did not pick correctly.  I cried a little.

Joe took pity on me and sent the 2006 Fleer Yankees team set my way, just cause he is super nice!

I think my favorite part is the Johnny Damon in the Red Sox uni!  Thanks for the generosity!!

rodman and win

Sam at The Daily Dimwit doubled my GU fun with a package today!  The Crawford patch is my winnings from his recent contest and the Rodman is the scariest thing that I've ever purposefully traded for!
I love weird and colorful Rodmans for reasons I have never adequately explained, even to myself.  I'm afraid that if I dig too deep into my psyche, I may find out things I'd rather not about myself.

Thanks Sam!  Let's do it again!

No respect for Konerko's wheels!

I was poking through cards the other day and came across this Chromy Konerko.  He looks all young and happy don't he?  It's a Scout's Honor Roll insert.

On the back is the fun part though.  This insert series has little tidbits about the various parts of the young players game.  "Hitting: The purest of the pure...", "Power: A by-product of fundamental soundness...".

Check out the write up for Speed.
Somebody at Topps had a sense of humor!!!  I like it!

Last second pimping

My Sports Obsession has a contest.  If you are reading this here, then you need to read better card blogs.  It's been all over the place.  If that's the case, go anyway.

My favorite Relief Pitchers. MINE, dagnabit you whippersnapper!

This is the seventh in this series of posts.

1st basemen here, 2nd basemen here, Shortstops here, 3rd basemen here and Catchers here, Outfielders here, Starting Pitchers here.

I have been wanting to do a series on my favorite players by position for a while now.  I decided on "top 10's by position" as my format.  I want it to be fun and interactive though.  So I decided on a few 'rules'.

1. I can bend the rules when I feel like it.
2. The players on the list have to have played when I payed attention to baseball.  So my arbitrary cutoff date is 1980.  All players on the list must have played in the 1980 season or later.
3. No ranking, just the top 10 in no real order.  So Duane Kiper might make the list, but you won't know if he is #1 or #9 on that list
4. SP will be a top 20 and OF will be a top 30
5. This is a card blog, so each player must have an accompanying picture of one of their baseball cards.  Usually it will be one I don't have, so you all can send them to me!!
6. I'll update each page with reader suggestions (even if I don't care for them) and keep a link to all other positions on future pages

sooooooooo...

My favorite Relief Pitchers

This one looks like an All 80's squad mostly.  Aaaahh, the golden age of the closer!

Dan Quisenberry - RIP + I need a relic or auto of his.

Rollie Fingers - still a classic

Mariano Rivera - duh

Kent Tekulve - If you never saw this guy, google him or youtube or something!  Awesome.

Bruce Sutter

 Lee Smith

Dennis Eckersley - crazy good

Trevor Hoffman

Goose Gossage - send this card to me

Billy Wagner

Eck from NY

A while back I held a contest for some beat up vintage cards.  A reader named Steve (no blog I think) won and the cards made their way across the country.

And I thought that was that.

But I was wrong!  Steve decided to show his appreciation by sending me this sweet Eck relic!  My first of him!  Thanks a ton Steve.  This is one of those stories that are always told around the blogger campfire about the kindness of the community out here.  The stories are true!

Card Show trade bait #3

I picked up these 5 SP's in a stack from one of my favorite dealers.  These and about 10 other decent cards for $10.  Pretty good, but I don't need SP's from sets I don't figure to complete.  Does anyone else?????
The Henderson, McCovey and Reggie are from 2010 Topps Update, The Mize is from 2010 Topps.

As usual, comment or e-mail to set something up!!!

Card Show trade bait #2

I hit the monthly card show across the river and came away with a bunch of stuff.  I should be posting a few posts out of this show.  Still to come: a short but sweet Dodgers post a SP post, and couple others.  But up now is a Braves post!!  Here's what I got, and it's all up for trade!

Ignore the price tags!!  I can't believe I forgot to remove those.  They don't mean anything anyway...  Here are Rookies and Inserts!

Refractor, mini and 3 more inserts!
That Select 'Team Nucleus' card almost didn't make it into this post because I love it.  But I know some Braves guy will love it even more.  Comment or e-mail me to set up a trade for any of this stuff!

Card show trade bait #1

I hit the monthly card show across the river this morning and came away with a bunch of stuff.  I should be posting a few posts out of this show, with one being a Braves post, one a SP post and a short but sweet Dodgers post.  A couple others might make it as well.  But up first is a Rockies post!!  Here's what I got, and it's all up for trade!

The triple relic card is #'d /50 and the 2 Finest inserts are #'d /500 for the red and /1500 for the blue.
This is the 1st time I have seen these!!  The card is encased in plastic along with liquid!  Wave of the future indeed!  A very strange but cool card any Helton collector should have.

Let me know if you are interested n any of these and stay tuned for more!

These Cards are Cool!! (lame post name?)

RyanG of This Card is Cool and I recently put together a random trade.  I sent him some stuff for his wantlists and his Cardboard Zoo project.  Because of the Cardboard Zoo project, Ryan has a great variety of cool inserts, which I love!  Here's some of what I got back!

Holy Funkaroni!  Many of these cards look a lot cooler in real life.

REALLY COOL!!  There are tons of weak inserts out there, but Ryan sent the good stuff.  I likey.

All are available for trade except the McGwire, Arod, Helton Finest Ballpark Bounties.  I'd like to keep the Rolen and Gonzalez, but would trade if you got the goods!!

Thanks to Ryan for a great trade!!!  I'll be keeping an eye out for more Zoo stuff for you!

Here's some of the goods!
Sweet!  Especially the Pascual Perez.  He's a beast, I need a relic of his!

Pimping shoes??

I have been told to get my pimping shoes on!!! So here is one of them, I can't find the other right now:

Plug N Play! Contests on the Interwebs!

Bloggers are basically attention suckers.  Lookit me, I gots cardboard stuffs!!  I'm not saying this to be mean (I AM a blogger after all) but to encourage you to give some of your limited attention span to a couple of great bloggers.

I could blab about how they are so insightful and they should be professional writers, and that would be true(ish), but the real reason you should head over there is the contests!!!

Jaybarkerfans Junk - You are playing for a spot in a 10 round card draft!  These are awesome.  Anyone who wants to enter and give their spot to me, let me know.

The Daily Dimwit - Here you are playing for one of 5 Auto's and relic's.  Good stuff!

GoGoGoGoGo!

Last chance for the Ervin Santana On Card Auto!

If you haven't seen my Bash the Beckett trade up experiment, check it out.  Right now there is a 4 card lot featuring an on card Auto of the author of the latest no hitter, Ervin Santana!

What, no Angel's fans read this blog???????????

If nobody makes a claim on this lot by Tuesday morning, I will trade for it myself!

Mail call - En mass edition

Well, I complained about a mail drought the other day, so of course, I got pummeled!  That's not a bad thing though!  Check it out.  I apologize to the bloggers mentioned below, but I have been on vacation and need to catch up, so these reviews will be quick.

Jaybarkerfan dropped a 'Summer of Giving' bomb in my face with a LARGE pack of Cardinals!  Below are three of my favorites.  Can't go wrong with Ozzie and Bob!

The next package was from Ted @ Crinkly Wrappers.  For the small price of shipping, he sent me most of the 2009 Legendary Cuts base set.  He also threw in the 2 SP's below.  Sweet!  He also sent my winnings from his recent card draft, but that will wait for another post!
I was also lucky enough to get in on Napkindoon's Big Fun Game.  And I got a Harper out of it!  Haven't bought even one pack, but I have the big card from the set.  Thanks Napkin!
And lastly, Fuji held a contest recently in which I was honored to pick up a smattering of Masterpieces Basketball cards!  I also recieved the coveted Fuji trade card, so those of you who have been holding that card over my head can suck it!!!  Hehehe.

Thanks to all, and more to come soon!
